‘Twas a dark and rainy night last night. Hope your pages didn’t get wet. We had quite the storm in these parts.
Anyway… I don’t know why but today I’m choosing STORMY WEATHER for the creative prompt is. (You might want to think metaphor.)

Good morning my creative darlings. Today’s word prompt is CHANGE. I chose it because I had to change the way I did the banner — I’m coming up on some numbers that are too long to spell out (I’d run out sand) — but change can mean so many things. I thought it was a good starting point.

Confession: I’m a little behind on my writing. But TODAY is the day I catch up. With that in mind, and because we are at the Day Ten benchmark I thought I’d recap the challenges so far before revealing today’s prompt…
So here in reverse order are your challenges thus far…
Let It Go
Believe
Comfort Zone
Box
[Day Five was the “Tell Me Ten” exercise]
Song
Surprise
Surf
Sand
The prompt for today is… HATS

Just keep writing, just keep writing… today’s prompt is LET IT GO.
So don’t hold it back anymore… get writing / creating. And send ’em in.

Happy Sunday every one. Sorry I’m posting so late in the day. Today’s prompt is BELIEVE.

Hello my awesome fellow creatives! We have reached Day Seven of the challenge! Today’s prompt is COMFORT ZONE.

Best of luck. Keep creating.

Alright! Friday! Lots of time to create this weekend, right?
… The prompt for Day Six of our Summer Writer’s Challenge is…BOX.
Huzzah we have our first REVEAL, this one is a bit of flash fiction from Joan W. that incorporates all 4 of the previous writing prompts. Congratulations to Joan for being the first to send in a story AND for figuring out a way to put Sand, Surf, Surprise and Song into such a small space.

While driving down a quiet country road a song came on the radio that reminded me of the beach.
I was surprised at how just hearing the song made me remember the wind blowing sand over my feet as I walked along the surf.
Another surprise was were the road was taking me. I found myself driving up to a large lake in the woods.
As the song played on, it brought back childhood memories of my family building sandcastles and playing along the surf trying to out run the waves.
As the song was coming to an end I reached the end of the road. And to my surprise there was my family waiting for me. Sand covered their feet. We were ready to make new memories in the surf.

We are five days in to our June creative challenge and today I thought I’d mix it up a bit by posting a simple writing exercise. This is one I came up with and it always helps me focus on a character, theme or place. It is called:
Just number a sheet of paper from one to ten then tell me ten things about, say, your main character (if you are writing fiction.) If you can’t tell me ten things… you probably need to do some more character development. Those ten things may never actually appear in the story, but they should definitely be in your head some where.
Here’s an example from my short story Toby, The Elf (which was part of the 12 Days of Christmas Stories here on ritaLOVEStoWRITE):

If time allows do this for each of your primary characters and locals.
I’ve used this technique when I’ve gotten stuck, bored or sidetracked in a story.
